The Health Minister, Dasho Dechen Wangmo returned from a High-level visit to Japan today. During her short visit to Japan, Her Excellency received an audience with the Imperial Crown Princess Kiko.

While in Japan, Her Excellency visited several reputed Japanese Medical universities and hospitals to explore institutional linkages for the Royal Centre for Infectious Diseases and Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan. Her Excellency visited the National Centre for Global Health and Medicine, Tokyo University, and Kyoto University.

Her Excellency discussed areas for research collaboration, human resources development and addressing the region’s anti-microbial resistance. In addition, she initiated dialogues for scholarships for the MBBS for Bhutanese students and discussed modalities for implementing and sustaining MBBS course from the Japanese experience.

JICA organized the visit as part of the establishment of the new Royal Centre for Infectious Diseases and Improving Quality of Medical Education in Bhutan for KGUMSB under the Technical Cooperation Project.
