Dasho Dr. Pandup Tshering
Hon’ble Health Secretary


Dasho (Dr) Pandup Tshering during his 31 years of service to the Tsa-Wa-Sum (the three jewels: the King, Country and People of Bhutan) was able to equip himself with a broad range of competencies in the area of health systems strengthening and health leadership.
By virtue of having served as Registrar of the Bhutan Medical Health Council from October 2010 till January 2015, Dasho also has a very good grasp of the regulatory systems in the health sector. Additionally, he served as the Director of Public Health and the Director General of Medical Services which was his last position before the current prestigious appointment. He started his career as Medical Officer in remote places at the grass root level and also served as Medical Superintendent of JDWNRH, the national referral hospital.
Dasho has a MBBS degree from Chittagong Medical College in Bangladesh and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Dasho is a graduate of the Bhutan Executive Service Training from the Royal Institute of Governance and Strategic Studies and also a very active member of the DeSuung fraternity.
After the COVID-19 pandemic struck in January 2020, Dasho was deputed to Puntsholing as the head of the Health Team/Desk of the Southern COVID-19 Taskforce.
Amongst the health fraternity, he is popular for his amiable personality and his approachable and candid leadership style. He is a keen footballer and still plays for the Ministry of Health’s football (over-40) and futsal teams as a goalie.
