Her Excellency the Health Minister Dasho Dechen Wangmo graced the groundbreaking ceremony (Salang Tendrel) for the construction of new Thromde Health Centers (Satellite Clinics) in Thimphu, today. The ceremony was held with the laying of Sachhu Bumter by Venerable Lam Neten Sangay Tshering of Zhung Dratshang.
The Thromde Health Centres will be constructed at Bebena, Semtokha, Motithang and Debsi in Thimphu Thromde, and one at Phuentsholing.
The overall goal of Thromde Health Center is to improve equity, efficiency and sustainability of Bhutan’s health system by augmenting access to primary health care services and improving the existing health information system.
The satellite clinic is expected to decongest patient load at the National Referral Hospital and in streamlining the referral pathway. “The satellite clinic will aid in ‘narrowing the gap’ in terms of improving access to healthcare and outreach services in urban pockets of the capital” said Lyonpo Dasho Dechen Wangmo at the gracing event.
The Ministry of Health planned the construction of Thromde Health Centre at the strategic location of the urban peripheries with the support from Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a $20-million Health Sector Development Program (HSDP).
This project supports the key result areas of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2018–2023) in creating a healthier nation through free, equitable, and quality healthcare for every Bhutanese.
